Simple Tips to Making a Great Coffee Cup

Your coffee maker has been sitting on your cupboard for months and the coffee beans you have received as coffee wedding favors are sitting in the cupboard too as you settle for that instant cup of coffee at home. If you think gourmet coffee can be done only by trained baristas, then read on to see how simple it is to make your own cup of gourmet coffee.

You can make that perfect brewed coffee anytime you want at home. Great coffee has to follow three major but easy steps – grinding, brewing and serving.

When grinding, most people recommend Arabica coffee because of its full bodied taste. You can also use other coffee beans as well as some have creamy, smooth, rich or nutty flavors that differentiate them from other coffee variants. After grinding the coffee beans, brew the beans but first remember to clean or to rinse the paper filter. Paper filters that are fresh from the box have small fibers that can be mixed into your coffee, which adversely affects the taste. Do not re-use coffee grounds as well as the flavor will not be the same as a fresh brew.

Always keep your coffee equipment clean primarily for hygiene issues. Also, dirt and grime might accumulate with frequent use, which can make your coffee taste differently. It is best to aim for a dark roast as this can give a rich coffee taste.

Grind, brew, and serve coffee only when you need a cup. Coffee is considered fresh within 10 minutes from the time it was made, and if it goes beyond that time and goes cold, avoid reheating the coffee as it will lose much of its taste.

The perfect combination of a perfect cup is two heaped tablespoons of coffee, combined with 6 ounces of water. Then you brew it for 4 to 6 minutes. The addition of sugar, milk, creamer, syrups and other flavors are dependent on the flavor and style of coffee that you want to have. Combination of these other coffee ingredients follows specific coffee recipes, so your cappuccino will not taste like latte.

When you have visitors, serve gourmet coffee and not instant coffee. With these tips at hand, you can now enjoy cup after cup of perfect coffee without having to leave your home or spend a lot of money.
