Baby’s First Birthday Party Planning Tips

Planning a baby’s first birthday party can be a proud moment for any parent. The first year of baby-hood is over and you are going to have a toddler soon enough. Some parents feel that since their child is too young to understand a one year old party that it is not worth having. Keep in mind however that pictures of a one year birthday can be a great memento for your child when they grow up. Not to mention, a first birthday party is sort of a celebration for you too, as you have made it through one year as a parent and are still breathing.

For the parent who is seeking to make a spectacular birthday celebration for their one year old, here are some great party planning tips.

1. Remember to keep the party short. You still have a baby despite the celebration, and nap time is still going to be in order. For that matter, if your child has a set nap schedule be sure that you don’t schedule a party during that time. A good parent knows the time of day when their baby is typically most happy, so take that as a time frame for a party.

2. When planning a theme and items for your child’s birthday party you want to be sure that it is kid friendly. Cartoon characters and typical toys for children make great party themes. Activities and food should be oriented towards kids and enjoyment for your child. Remember if you are going to have children there, it is a good idea to prepare kid-friendly foods, like juice boxes and fruit slices.

3. Have the party in a kid-friendly environment where children can safely play with supervision. Parks, recreation areas, and indoor children’s gyms are just a few suggestions. Remember that any venue needs to be pre-approved and booked well ahead of time.

4. Guests you invite should be family members and friends with children around your baby’s age. If you invited older children you must think of entertainment that is age appropriate for them as well. In your invitation be sure to address the fact that it is a family-oriented party and that children are welcome with adult supervision. Be careful to mention adult supervision, you don’t want to get stuck babysitting when you should be helping your child enjoy their party.

5. Most parents have the image of a baby with cake and frosting all over their face on their first birthday. If you would like to reproduce this image with your child be sure that you provide them with a small personalized cupcake or cake that they can dig into fully, and a separate larger cake or cupcake for your guests. Asides from cake, you can also bake decorated birthday cookies in the shape of the number one or babies. These will look great in photos and be memorable to your guests as well.

These are just a few party planning tips to keep in mind when planning your children’s first birthday party. Keep in mind that if you are not looking to spend too much money you can plan a smaller gathering with just immediate family members at home. There are going to be plenty more birthdays to come, let the first be your guide to the rest.
