Helpful Tips in Making Your Own Wedding Cake

Weddings, no matter how romantic they seem to be, will truly have an impact on one’s savings. From the invitations to the gown to the reception food, weddings can easily cost you thousands of dollars.
You can think of some ways though where you can save – such as invitations that you can print for yourself, wedding gowns you can purchase on sale or at thrift stores, or you can bake your own cake.

For most brides, creating their own wedding cake does not only save them money, but it is something that excites them because it means that they are truly giving the time and effort to making their wedding their dream wedding. If you are able to bake a cake, here are some tips to help you create that perfect wedding cake for that perfect wedding.

-Use a simple cake design. To save you the hassle and the worries, do not use complicated designs as you may be frustrated if you do not get the desired outcome. Get a design where you can conceal or easily remedy it if a design or cake topper falls.

-In coming up with the style and design, consider the means of how you will transport the cake. Whether you will be using a car or a van, make sure that the height will easily fit. It would be such a disaster and a shame if you would be cutting the cake or abandon the cake altogether only because it wouldn’t fit in the car.

-Prepare other materials for the cake such as the cardboard, cake servers, and toppings. You can ask your caterer to provide the plates for the cake.

-Consider using real flowers as toppers instead of icing flowers. These are easy to prepare (you basically just have to stick them on the cake) and will give your cake a fresh and romantic look.

-Remember that certain icing ingredients will result to a certain icing color. Buttercream will result in an off-white icing, perfect if the bride will use off-white for the gown as well. Pure white icing will work to complement the pure white gown of the bride. For another option for an off-white gown, use ivory fondant or chocolate ganache.

Just follow the basics in baking a cake, add a little art and creativity, plan well, and you will definitely come up with a wedding cake to complement the whole wedding celebration. The groom and the guests will appreciate not just the taste, but as well as your creativity and initiative in making a cake that is like no other. Unlike cakes where shops have their own standard design, and wedding cake styles that have been used in other weddings, yours is a cake design that reflects the real you.
