How To Create Playlists for Your Wedding

Music, in any situation, sets the whole mood in the room. Even when you are personally listening to music on your iPod, your choice of music or your playlist complements your mood. So more notably at special occasions, music can create the atmosphere or create the mood that you would want the group to have.

During weddings where the mood is romantic in itself, you may want to support that with complementing music as well. Especially when there are mishaps in the event, as people may be irritated when the ceremony takes too long or the food takes too long to be served, music can either distract or elevate the mood instead. As you may have songs in mind already, here are some essentials that you should not miss out on when it comes to your wedding songs, along with some other wedding ideas for using music at your wedding.

Have music prepared for these parts of the wedding: the ceremony (processional, recessional, interlude), cutting the cake, first dance for the couple, and bridal reception party, and also at the end of the event when you are thanking your guests and handing out wedding favors. At the ceremony, generally there is no background music except when the bride is walking down the aisle and on the interlude. A professional wedding singer can perform songs for you or have the choir play and sing those songs for you. Some opt for the more dramatic and romantic feel of live music. There will definitely be goosebumps especially when the church choir’s songs are very moving and emotional.

On the reception, play soft music as the people come in and take their seats. This is generally not the time for loud music as this is the time where people mingle and greet each other. Make it easier for them so they will not struggle against the music. Make the music conversation friendly. During cake cutting portion of the wedding, play the favorite music of the couple. Make it a fast song as a few laughs may be shared during this part of the reception. On the first dance, this is normally a romantic song that brings a special meaning for the couple.

At the party, this is of course the time where loud party music signals the culmination of the happiness of the couple.

Have family closely monitor the music played when you are renting from a special lights and sound provider. In one major mishap, the song “Broken Vow” was played during the reception. Imagine the horror of those who noticed that a song about breaking up and cheating is playing on the background. Get their playlist and unsure that they bring the exact CDs with them.

When all is settled, all there is left for you to do is relax, and enjoy your big day. Share smiles with your family and friends as romantic music helped lighten up the spirit of everyone in the room.
