What You Need To Know About Evening Wedding Reception Music

An evening reception spells romance in every aspect, but for some, especially if you have a long ceremony, people may already be tired. Great song selections can turn a sleepy crowd into a live and happy crowd, and that’s something you will want people to remember.

Of course, you will want your guests to stay up and not leave until the last part of the reception where you hand out your wedding favors, but with bad music in the background, it can actually make people leave on a bad note. Here are some things you should know when determining your music for your evening reception.

You can check the performance or have an audition of at least 2 live bands, 2 wedding singers, and 2 DJs to see which ones you may like. If you already have a feeling that you’d prefer a live band, narrow your search to at least 2 or 3 live bands instead to save you time. Check how they perform and if they have enough ‘star power’ or energy to wow the crowd. Check their experience and you can compare the talent fees of the bands as well. Ask about their costumes as well because that should be in line with an evening wedding or your theme and not be too provocative.

During an evening reception, you may want to choose soft music while the guests are having their meal to complement the romantic mood. Try to stay away from loud or fast music as this can make most people feel that it is as if the party is starting already and would not complement the mood of dining as well. This is also the chance where they get to talk to the other guests at their table, so it is best if you can keep the music and the volume on a low level and not compete with the conversations in the crowd.

Have music that everyone will enjoy. This means you have to diversify your music and play songs from different genres and different age groups. This is the part of your wedding where you get to choose songs as only traditional songs can be played during the ceremony. Here you have the freedom to choose the playlist so makes sure that the younger people, and the more ‘mature’ age groups have songs they will both enjoy.

Music brings to life any occasion. It can set the mood and ambiance and at times, totally turn the mood from bad to good. Your wedding reception music can help your guests appreciate every part of the reception. It is something that they will constantly hear in the background and can even be a conversational point.

There are some things you should invest your time on when planning your wedding and your evening reception music should be one of them. It is something that your guests will see, hear, and remember and there is no room for second takes.
